Dr. Berkwits is a physiatrist focusing on conservative non-surgical care of spinal and joint conditions.  Dr. Berkwits received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School and completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute. In 1992, Dr. Berkwits was Board Certified from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He completed a fellowship in Interventional Spine and Pain Management at Orthopedic and Spine Specialists followed by achieving a subspecialty Board Certification in Pain Medicine from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. 

Dr. Berkwits is leaving his private practice in Asheville and Brevard, NC to join colleagues David Shallcross, MD, Robert Leblond, MD, Ashley Mullinax, MD and Jyoti Math, MD who comprise Upstate Medical Rehabilitation within Southeastern Neurosurgical & Spine Institute.
